Jerzy Siuzdak was born in 1955 in Kraków, Poland. He graduated from Warsaw Technical University where he obtained the M.Sc., Ph. D. and D.Sc. degrees in 1979, 1982, and 1992, respectively. Starting in 1982 he was employed by the Institute of Telecommunications, where he worked on opto-electronic and range measuring equipment. In 1987-1988 and in 1990 he worked as a research fellow at the Technical University of Eindhoven, the Netherlands. There, he was involved in research on coherent optical communication systems. From 1991 he is a member of teaching staff at the Faculty of Electronics and Information Techniques of the Warsaw Technical University. Currently, he is employed as a full time professor (title earned in 2004). His research interests include light propagation in optical fibers and open space as well as some aspects of signal processing. At present, he is involved in research on multimode optical fibers and visible light communications. He has written many papers published in world-wide journals and conference materials. Since 2016, he is also the head of the Institute of Telecommunications (www.tele.pw.edu.pl), Warsaw University of Technology.
